Some personal photographs of the Roman hillfort that guarded HardKnott Pass in Cumbria. Interestingly after a bit of research I  discovered the names assigned to the three linked forts at  Ambleside, HardKnott and Ravenglass are probably wrong, according to historians and archaeologists. Atmospheric and bleak, this place plays a part in my forthcoming novel "Centurion of The Boar."

It is built on steep uneven ground with a 'parade-ground' on the hillside above it - photo 3 gives a glimpse.
